About Predesign.store

Predesigned.Store is here to offer a fresh POV on up-cycled clothing & African inspired art & clothing by Hrdsmn.

Owner / Founder Suhail Ray Davis was
inspired from his late Grandmother Bettie Marie Gibson-Cloud who was a fashion model and clothing designer in the 1950’s. Growing up predominantly in the High Desert in California, Ray seen  his mother Germaine also take to fashion as she made dress suits for him and his 3 brothers.

Ray first started expressing himself making clothing as a youth using the upcycle (or pre-mixing) style as a method of design in 1992, making hats from sweatshirts, bleaching denim and designing T-shirts for his hip-hop group “LyfeStile.”

Predesign specializes in up-cycling clothing, creating 1-of-1 rare pieces. It is not a new thing to 'upcycle'…but it is really cool to see how far its come.

Q. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN  RECYCLING AND UPCYCLING?

Recycling involves breaking down used materials to create new products of equal or lesser quality. This process requires energy and resources, but it helps to conserve raw materials and reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills.

In upcycling, fabric or material is reused by being given a creative makeover. This could be an old curtain you turn into a dress, or a jacket you flip into shorts.

Upcycled clothing in our case tend to focus on raising the value of the material from the state that it is in.

Up-cycling or ’Expressing Change’ is something that I’ve been experimenting with since the early 90’s as a design technique. I use the improvisational approach on many of the pieces, meaning Im making up most of the design as I go, trusting what i feel at that moment.

Communicating through Art is something that has always been a  part of me in my journey. Most times serving as a means of 'therapy'.
